It is as close to perfect as one can get with these things. Once you have spent a little bit of time familiarizing yourself with it you will be quite content with what it can do for you.and that is a lot. It seems to be the most commonly used program with the most happy users of any of the other software.available. I have been using it for over twenty years and greatly regret that Ancestry no longer provides it. It does everything that I will ever need for me and my family and our future ability to share and inform. What has happened is that the CD-DVD format has become obsolete and our newer computers no longer have a CD-DVD drive.yikes, gone the way of the floppy disk. How can we still keep the information and this method of maintaining it up to date?
Family Tree Maker - Up To Version 16 Review by Susan Lubow, Oct 5, 2018 Rating I have been using FTM 16 since it came out. Basically, I use it to organize and store information and photos and create books. I do my research without connecting FTM 16 to the internet and I have no problems.
The biggest plus is the ability to make and then print books on my own computer. Or, make the books and then have them printed at stores such as Staples. The way in which this program allows one to insert pictures into text is simple and unsurpassed in subsequent versions. The biggest drawback to continued use is that you have to have a 32-bit computer.
If your computer is 64-bit, certain functions (exporting reports, trying to create/preview books) are non-executable and will cause the program to shut down. I am considering buying FTM 2017. I hope that it has the ability to allow me to produce books, as i have been doing fort years.

I wish developers (and Family Tree Maker in particular) had a consistent way of dating and giving version numbers to their editions. Magazines have issue/volume numbers and dates and so do serial books. Why can’t software? I’ve been using Family Tree Maker when it first came out.
