When he does this, you'll have to avoid him. Pegasus Seeds help, so use them liberally. When Syger stops, charge in on the side the ball is on. Hack at the blinking ball until Syger turns spiky again, then get on the defensive.
You'll need to do this several times in order to beat him, but when you do, you'll get the requisite fairy and portal. Mini-Boss Fight Tip: Calamareye [ ] Three separate squids make up the fighting force of Calamareye. These guys surface from pools in the arena and try to pepper with fireballs. Other than that, they aren't much of a threat. But they are invulnerable in water, so you'll have to get them out of there. To do this, equip the Bracelet and your Sword. Wait for a squid to surface, then pull him out of the pond and chuck him into the corner.
